Are you implying that people might not be fully onboard with paying full price for a bad port of a two year old 9th sequel to a franchise where none of the other games are on the platform? Those are bold words cotton.

I bought it on PS5, really good game, enjoyed my playthrough, but I’m not going to buy it for full price when it’s been available elsewhere for ages. But if Sony put GT7 on pc, and even though it’s pretty much all I play on my PS5, I’ll probably pay full price for it, just saying…

Agreed. Gran Turismo in VR is a pretty wild experience, and if they were to release it on PC, they should ensure that it can be played as intended with PSVR2, along with other headsets.

As a racing game, it’s always been good, the issues were that the cars were super expensive to buy, and there were microtransactions to buy the credits needed to get those cars, that issue is still there, but less of a problem now that people know how to farm cash easier.
I like the trend this is going: delayed platform exclusivity rather than forever exclusivity. Modern tech has advanced to the point that hardware differences does not always roadblock cross platform capability. The only issue is the variety in hardware for PC, which can be resolved by releasing the game first in known/fixed architectures (aka consoles) then continuously develop for PC later. That way, the console owners would benefit from immediate support first so they would feel their investment is worth, and PC players would be able to get a slice of pie later as well
Before opening this thread, I didn’t even know Ratchet & Clank came to PC. I generally follow gaming news and tend to hear about most of this sort of things even if it’s a game that I don’t personally care about, but I just haven’t seen any advertising about this one. None of the “weekly gaming news”-youtubers which I follow mentioned it, etc. Even the title of this thread doesn’t mention the game lmao.
My only history with the series is that back when the PS4 R&C was added to PS+, I played it for maybe 1 hour and thought “this could be a fun game if I could use a mouse”. I generally don’t like playing shooters with controller.
I’ve always been interested in the game otherwise, it’s just that due to being PS exclusive controller-only game, I didn’t really care. But I just now bought the game due to this thread - and I almost skipped opening this thread.
I don’t think platformers have a big of an audience on PC compared to console
Not true at all, platformers thrive on PC in part because we have a lot of indie promotion and loads of platformers come from indie devs.
Consider:
- The game costs double on PC what it does on PSN right now, even less buying used.
- It’s part of the PS+ game catalogue, which is a pretty cheap upgrade for people who have PS+ Essential already and means that PS+ Premium users can stream it (including to PC).
- The PS5 port is already pretty dang good, 40 FPS at 4K and 60 below that, and platformers are generally best played with a controller. Most people aren’t really missing out by just playing on PS5 if they have one.
It just doesn’t make sense to buy for a lot of people. We’re beyond the phase of buying games just so Sony keeps putting them out, and in the phase of ignoring bad values. I’m a PC gamer myself, but I’m playing a whole bunch of games on PS5 right now because they’re included with PS+ Extra/Premium and I’m price-sensitive.
I wasn’t even aware it was happening. This is not the first time Sony has just dumped a game on steam and said almost nothing about it. I was shocked to find journey on steam almost a year after it was released on there.
It is not really my type of game. But surprised others didn’t like it.
Ratchet is my favorite series.
I haven’t loved a new Ratchet game since A Crack in Time, from 2009. Not that the last 3 games were terrible, but I haven’t enjoyed them nearly as much.

Bad experience with Steam? What happened?
I have a PS5 and Linux PC with mainly Steam on it. Both connected to my big TV and sound system. I have gotten super cheap games as well as free games. Works great with my Xbox controller too.

I wasn’t trying to assume anything about you or your life. Just that those issues are not Steam problems but PC problems. If you want something that just works out of a box, I will not disagree that a console is the way. I’m a huge supporter of consoles as well as PC. As someone else said “you don’t know anything about me”.

A console just works, and if PC gaming can’t offer that same experience than it’s got negative value in my book.
I primarily play on PC, but I’ve always understood this part as the reason why so many people just prefer consoles - and there’s nothing wrong with that. No hassle, just open the console and start playing. While PC does give more customizability and a much bigger library of games accessible through the same machine, it’s also more likely to run into some platform-related issues here and there.
It’s all about finding the balance between negatives and positives: personally I’ll rather just deal with the occasional random problems since the reward is the huge library of games and (usually) better end result.
But I do understand why someone else might go for consoles - as long as it has enough games which you can enjoy, the limited library isn’t really a problem anyway.
I’ve rarely had any real problems, but I’ve also been using windows PC as my main platform for like 30 years at this point - many fixes/workarounds are just intuitive for me at this point (“oh just press alt+enter”), while they might be a confusing dealbreaker for a newcomer. Anyone arguing that “using PC is just as easy!” probably doesn’t realize how many different small things they’ve learned over time while using the platform, or they’ve just been lucky and never ran into a persistent issue (like the one that you described). Or they’re just more interested in the platform as a whole, and happily spend some time learning to use it.
I feel like the main problem with your previous comment is just that you stated “bad experiences with Steam”, while you’re talking about PC issues in general. What you described there (probably) isn’t caused by Steam. But this, again, comes back to just not understanding the platform, which is an understandable reason to just go play on a console instead - less hassle and all that.

A bit of a shame :/ Personally I’m looking to get it. Even at full price. I’m just waiting to see if they iron out a few of the technical issues I’ve seen on Digital Foundry first
I played it on PS Plus and was kind of underwhelmed tbh.
I mean, it’s decent but nothing really spectacular. For how highly praised it was, it fell short.
I don’t think there was any big desire for this on PC? At least compared to other Sony exclusives like God of War or Final Fantasy XVI. Also since it’s a game aimed at kids I would say they have a bigger user base on PS5. Kids on PC are more likely to play Roblox, Fortnite or other free to play games I guess?
Ratchet and clank games have been around a while man. I’m most definitely not a kid and I got the game as soon as I found out it was available. It was a lot of fun on ps5 and I’m looking forward to playing it on the steam deck.
Sorry, didn’t mean anything bad by it. I haven’t played a Ratchet and Clank game since the ps2 so I’m not too sure what the series is like now? I thought that this game would be more geared toward families or kids? Doesn’t mean other people can’t enjoy it too of course. I enjoy plenty of media that would be intended for a younger audience

I’d agree with you back when they were pumping out half-games on the PS3/PSP. This felt like a fresh entry for the first time since the PS2.

Sony doesn’t want to lose console sales so they put it on PC later for people who will never buy a PS5. It’s unlikely that they will sell on PC day one unless they sales were so good it was worth changing strategies. Xbox changed strategies after seeing how well their PC ports sold.
They used to never port stuff to PC. They will stop making ports if people don’t buy them. They don’t need the PC market, they have lasted two decades without it.
You’re honestly right. People who pirate new games that are readily available hurt the gaming landscape. I can understand pirating games that are unavailable through marketplaces or are so old that they’re community supported but if you’re pirating something like the game being discussed you’re only hurting the chances of Sony bringing more exclusives to PC and ultimately contributing to games being less available and accessible. There are many ethical situations where pirating totally makes sense but if you’re trying to argue you’re in the ethical right by pirating newly released games then you have some wires crossed. If someone really were against Sony ethically they wouldn’t play Sony’s games at all. Playing the game and telling people you had a good time is literally propping up the thing you supposedly don’t want to support.

I don’t know what you mean. If Sony doesn’t make money porting games they will stop doing it. They started doing it as an experiment. They don’t need the PC market.
It’s not that they don’t make money. If you want a game and already have got it on the Playstation, it’s not much of value to get it on the PC. If Sony releases the games simultaneously, many people who really want them, will buy for PC, too. It’s the delay that decreases the value, especially when the game turns out mediocre.
I’d say a majority of people either have a PS5 or a gaming PC, not both. Sony’s strategy is to sell games to people who aren’t going to buy a PS5. They aren’t doing the MS thing where they consider PC part of their ecosystem.
That is not what Sony is doing. They already made their mind, the experiment’s results were decided by an executive years ago. This is to shut people up. Release a bad and buggy port, charge twice as much what it costs on PS5, spend absolute zero on marketing then go “Oops, guess people aren’t really interested on our games on PC. See, we released it and nobody bought it!”
Sony bought Nixxes Software which made them a lot of successful PC ports. They saw great success with their first ports and really only saw major issues with the Last of Us. Their ports are generally pretty good and if they have bugs they get fixed. It costs a lot of money to do this and your conspiracy theory about them doing it just to say it failed is silly. They could just be like Nintendo and give a hard no to PC ports but obviously they see potential in it.
It’s sad that rachet and clank failed because now they will be less likely to port lesser known titles. I really want them to port the gravity rush games but it’s looking less likely.
