Do to a busy life (both good and bad stuff) I had a bit of a late start planting and sowing seeds indoors.
But today cut the grass (which was knee high 😅) and planted a courget plant. Some weeding in the beds (I did it weekly luckily) and looks much nicer.
Tomorrow or Monday the tomatoes and cucumbers will be planted. After that most seeds I have can be direct sow from now on.
The season is long. A little bit every year and before long you will have all the infrastructure in place for epic harvests
Props to the pallet collar raised beds, industrial agriculture!
ok I thought that was duct tape
Looks great.
If you plan on sowing carrots, be mindful of the spacing. I just learned this year what “thinning carrots” means and why it should be done. I think I’m just gonna eat carrots leaves this year.
I just spread carrot seeds randomly in. And as they grow pick ones that are too close to the others, that way I am getting nice baby carrots and get a longer harvest, carrots should also be able to stay in over winter too,
This is exactly how I plant carrots, lol. How cold are your winters? Our carrots are kinda funky year two. It also seems like they’re prioritizing making seeds over making a nice carrot. We also have a ton of wild carrots that come up so flowers = pull it.
That’s exactly what they’re doing. Carrots don’t bolt til their second year. I let a few get huge one year and the next I got like a pound of seeds off them. Thought I’d hit the jackpot. Found out the hard way why you don’t collect seeds from F1’s
I see some nasturtium planted in with your brassica, there. Any other interplanting?
I did sow some marigolds and tagetes inbetween plants. The tomatoes will be planted together with Basil.
I planned to make 1 pallet bed for only flowers to attract pollinators. But don’t know yet when I will have the time and energy.
keep it going, keep it strong
