By bump system I mean someone interacting with a post causing that post to move higher in the main feed.

If so what are the specifics? Is it just upvotes? Just comments? What about if someone archives your post?

Also what’s to stop someone from trying to manipulate their own post by adding new comments to try to raise the post in the feed to get more interaction?

Not really but kinda. Depends on how you sort the feed. There’s new comments / active / most comments (and maybe scaled?) which factor in number of comments but if you don’t sort by that then number of comments doesn’t affect it in the feed. Also, someone who comments a lot of nonsense is probably going to get blocked, down voted, reported / banned or their posts removed.

There’s also top hour/the/12hr/day/week/month/year, controversial, new, etc. which won’t factor comments in.

I didn’t even think about how you browse the feed effecting it but that makes sense.

And yeah I could definitely see someone getting banned or whatnot for being excessive.

I was mainly curious to see if there aren’t any small ways to try to boost interaction on a post. I’m not tryna spam stuff though if my post fails it fails 🤷‍♂️

If you go on the web ui and look where the sort option is, there’s a little ?. Click it and it will explain the sorting options.

Many instances use Active as the default, which is based on latest comment. However, it’s also based on the score, so if you are spamming or people don’t like your post you’ll get down voted (or no one will upvote) and then it won’t hit the front page even when sorted by Active.

That makes sense. I typically just try to interact with anyone who comments on a post of mine hoping it might lead to more interaction.

Personally I don’t really care about the upvotes or whatnot I’m more worried about active interactions and hearing people’s thoughts on things and stuff like that.
