The key takeaways in the trial on Monday

Publisher David Pecker was the first witness in the trial of the former U.S. president.

Pecker talked about “checkbook journalism” and will retake the stand on Tuesday.

“There’s nothing wrong with trying to influence an election,” Trump’s lawyer said.

The prosecutor said the case “Is about a conspiracy and a cover-up”.

A meeting in August 2015 is where the scheme began, the prosecutor added.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records.

Within minutes, Trump attorney Todd Blanche started going after Michael Cohen, Trump’s ex-fixer who made the hush money payment at the center of the case and is expected to be prosecution’s star witness.

Blanche noted Cohen’s many media appearances expressing an excitement to see Trump convicted and also brought up instances where Cohen was found to have lied.

“I submit to you that he cannot be trusted,” Blanche said.

    And yet Trump trusted him.

Weird how almost every person who was in Trump’s inner circle is now an untrustworthy enemy. And yet he knows “the best people.”

Holy crap I think I hate these live updates. The information is so disjointed and annoying to read. Am I the only one that hates this?
