Meh. The Leafs were purely playing for Matthews. At least two goals against were directly caused by cheating for him. I’m not reading too much into it.
True. To me, the Bolts seemed to have more team spirit because of the same issue with them.
If Matthews had scored against the Panthers, at least him, Marner, Nylander, Tavares probably wouldn’t have been playing at all. I thought the guys on the playoff spot bubble played pretty well.
Both Brodie and Tavares looked like they were about to cry when they scored and Brodie had the longest goal drought in the league. Keefe pulled Jones and kept Matthews on for a nearly 3-minute shift. I just think the only real takeaway from that game is that they all really wanted Matthews to hit 70. They’d normally get benched for the dangerous, Hail Mary passes they were making to him.
I also think the Kucherov assist is a different dynamic. He just needed a touch. Could’ve been a primary or secondary assist. Matthews needed a goal and finished with 16 attempts, 12 shots, and 2 posts. Could’ve been 15-1 but treated like a W if one of those went in.
Stopped watching when Florida tied it up on Tuesday. Lol
