Tldr, the doctor that came up with the medical residency program was an absolute coke-head and apparently expected everyone seeking that MD to work accordingly.
Fast forward to today… cocaine is a bit better controlled, but that seems to be about all that’s changed lol.
I’m just a surgical tech, but from practically day 1 seeing what our medical residents go through struck me as 1) this is slavery, and 2) this is super, SUPER unsafe for the resident and any patients that get within arm’s reach of them. What the actual fuck!
Unfortunately a lot of doctors seem to take pride in it, and any suggestion that they could be unsafe due to fatigue is taken as a personal attack against their flawless integrity.
This needs the massive IN THE USA disclaimer slapped over it. Sure, doctors are massively overworked everywhere, but if you’re supporting the NHS then you get people banging pots and pans for you, which I’m sure makes it all worthwhile.

If you asked me, the moment you shut off your mind to the idea that all of us basically know hardly anything at all, is the moment you start to degrade mentally, physically, and even spiritually. Closed mindedness isn’t evil itself… but I’ve yet to hear of or meet anyone who’s both open minded and a horrid person.
You’re for sure wrong about most things, and probably wrong on several things you’re sure of too.
