Many many years ago my mom was in the hospital and the woman who shared the room with her was Vietnamese I think it was? I really can’t remember. They didn’t have anybody that spoke her language and it was a big problem. Then one day while I was there her husband was visiting when one of the doctors showed up.

Your her husband? Great! We really need someone to translate for us.

    I don’t speak her language.

Two of my co workers at Disney were a long married couple, she’s German and he isn’t. They told me how they met, he was in the military and stationed in Germany, and he hooked up with her. The next morning her father decided his daughter was going to marry this American guy. She didn’t speak English and he didn’t speak German, so they had no way to communicate for the first few months of their marriage. But they were still together decades later, lol.
