    Of course, no single number can be the final answer: it doesn’t seem reasonable to assume that all skills (e.g., programming, chess playing, checkers playing, and music playing) could all require exactly the same amount of time to master, nor that all people will take exactly the same amount of time.

    I mean, some skills definitely fall short of that, like tying your shoes.
    But if a skill is complex enough, and it is viable for a dedicated person to invest a lifetime into it (e.g. you can earn your living off of it), then I would argue that those skills do have a pretty similar bound for mastery.

    At some point, you hit that physical limit of a human brain not being able to hold much more than e.g. ten years of experiences. And as such, anyone new to the field won’t have to invest more than that to achieve the same level of mastery.
