60 year-old was struck and later died when a car making a left turn hit her in broad daylight on Jan 29th.

**I will note that the area of McNicoll Avenue and Brimley Road has no cycling infrastructure to speak of. **

Surprisingly they didn’t. The driver stopped, asked to help. We called the police and an ambulance. I got questioned and all the cops told me was I should walk my bike in the crosswalk because it’s easier to ditch it and jump away if there’s danger. They gave a mild ticket to the driver. I departed with the ambulance and started my journey to getting to walk again with a shattered subtalar joint. It all went as well as the system allows. Life changing auto insurance payouts are a myth. Unless you lose a limb or never walk again, at which point your life is changed payout or not. 🥲

Walk your bike 🙄 … How about drivers pay attention where they are going?

I’ve nearly been hit by a car turning left, and I was walking my escooter across a crosswalk. Full high-viz gear and lights, and I had a “walk” signal, yet the driver (who had to skid their tires to stop) said that they didn’t see me. 😒😒😒😒

Well, they didn’t blame, rather were like, today we’ve had X occasions like this and it sucks but you just stand a better chance if you are free to jump out of the way. 🥹

I’m sorry for “umm, ackshually”-ing in thread like this, but there is the Finch Hydro Corridor Trail, a separated trail (hooray) that dumps people at intersections on McNicoll like at Brimley with just a slightly wider crosswalk as part of the trail (uh), with no bike lanes that continue on after the intersection or anything (wtf).

Just saying that the biking infrastructure that is there is almost worse than nothing at all. At the intersection at McCowan Ave I’m always worried a biker is going to come up from the trail without me noticing.

What’s worse about that intersection, is that the treeline blocks view of the right lane’s approach to the intersection, because it’s an S-curve.

That is quite right. There is no infrastructure for travelling through that intersection, but an MUP exists that really does just dump people off there.

I will say that for McNicoll having two lanes in both directions, there is more than enough room to make a bike lane.
