Considering every carbon offset project I worked on in my tree planting days were a complete scam, this is good news. Sadly it is all too common for a company to pay to plant a tree only for that tree to be planted where it has no chance at survival. The big polluters pat themselves on the back and the company doing the offsets will keep reusing the same land without doing anything to give the trees a chance. Carbon Farmer was the worst for that shit. I actually ended up planting the same piece of clay grassland three years in a row, it was so depressing.
Can someone explain how carbon offsets are better than simply moving the oil companies’ subsidies to green energy?
Not better for you or me. Not better for anyone or anything on the planet except the already ultra wealthy sociopathic assholes.
