It’s a Danielle Smith problem in that there’s a chance she’ll use it to try and score political points by somehow blaming the federal government for the problem.

But like you said, it’s a problem that was created by the conservatives in the first place. Especially amusing now given that the current government put a stop to renewable energy projects near the end of the summer. Clearly they think there’s a capacity problem given the message that went out today, but they’re not interested in fixing it.

And if we all bought heat pumps and EVs then I guess they’d just have to upgrade the grid. I have to call out this point though because it’s a talking point that some people use when wanting to ban EVs. It’s some mythical tomorrow where literally everyone suddenly owns and is charging an EV vs. the grid as it stands today. Maybe the grid today can’t handle literally everyone charging an EV, but that’s an indication that maybe we should put some serious effort into upgrading it. Oh, but somehow the grid is just fine with all the new condos and infills and commercial developments that are constantly going up.

(sorry to rant, and it’s not directed at you @[email protected] nor am I suggesting you want to ban EVs. I just had a frustrating exchange with some family over Christmas specifically about them wanting to ban EVs for that reason.)

I don’t doubt she’ll use anything to beat the Trudeau government with. She’s insufferable as she is stupid.

I understand you’re not ranting at me. I’m pro EV, heat pumps and nuclear but in order to fight climate change, we need to move towards more electricity and further away from fossil fuels. I doubt this province will stay ahead of the demand if many of us start this migration without the support of the government.

We’re already seeing cracks in the system and my guess it’ll get worse before it gets better.

I agree, and its so sad to see us continuing to move in such a terrible direction. Its extremely frustrating since I would rather stay here than move.

Hopefully we can all continue to stick by each other to fight this and find time for some joy and positivity as well. 🙂
