Canada’s labour market bounced back strongly, more than offsetting losses from a month earlier, keeping pressure on the Bank of Canada to raise interest rates again next week.

The country added 60,000 jobs, driven by gains in full-time work, while the unemployment rate rose to 5.4 per cent, the highest since February 2022, Statistics Canada reported Friday in Ottawa. The figures beat expectations for a gain of 20,000 positions, but missed the forecast for a jobless rate of 5.2 per cent, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg survey.

    I’m not surprised that anyone who can afford not to work is choosing not to work. Wages aren’t keeping up with inflation, all while big corps across the country are celebrating record profits.

    I’m not particularly interested in working for less than I’m worth either. Not just so someone higher up the food chain can buy another yacht.
