I love this game, despite its flaws. I love the King’s Field aesthetic, the way spells are tools and some are even just jokes, the exploration, the promise of secrets. I do think it was a mistake to make speed and jump height attributes though, at a certain point you just start cheesing enemies. I get the same kind of feeling from Dread Delusion.

Ive played Lunacid since Early Access. Its an okay attempt, but its way closer to Shadow Tower than it is to King’s Field. So for me, who was expecting a King’s Field experience, it was kinda disappointing. Just about the only thing Lunacid has in common with King’s Field is that its a first person game.

The music is more like what I would expect from Shadow Tower if it had a soundtrack. The enemies are Shadow Tower. The storyline is Shadow Tower. Nearly everything. The problem is that Lunacid doesn’t lean into Shadow Tower all the way. There’s no armor in the game at all, only weapons and magic. You can make your character run at a million miles per hour and jump like a Morrowind character with 900 Acrobatics. The art style is inconsistent, starting with a mostly realistic take on graphics but then introducing anime styled characters (but only some of them are anime styled).

If I had to rate it, as a person that liked King’s Field more than Shadow Tower, I’d give it a 5.5. Its not the worst game ever, but it was pretty disappointing as a King’s Field experience. A person who liked Shadow Tower would probably enjoy the game more.
