Why the hell are Popes and Kings speaking at these events?

They make some vain announcements that something should be done, everyone is in danger and then go back to their shadowy domains and no one ever hears them say or do anything significant that would help people. All the while living extravagant lives while saying that we should help the poor.

Because they have power, (or repersent people who do hold it in the case of King Charles) and need to be on board with the solution.

I see it as an admission that unelected people or undemocratically elected people have so much power over the world.

Why is this fuck even allowed at the u.n? Who cares what a pedo enabler says? Not even Catholics care what the Pope says

Who cares what representatives of neoliberal governments and fossil fuel companies have to say about this? The Pope is not the biggest problem at the COP.

Religion being involved in political and global affairs will always be the biggest problem in my eyes tbh

I don’t think the problem with structures like the church is that it’s always an asshole that makes it to the top. It’s that there’s always a risk that one will make it.

I agree with your criticism about the Catholic Church (I wouldn’t call this the biggest problem though), but from what I’ve read, the current Pope is more of an asset than a liability on this topic.

The Vatican operates as a tiny country. Pretty much every organized religion and youth group has had the same issues as the Catholic Church.
