What does the “two” mean for BBC. Are the numbers associated with different program types / regions?
There are four main free-to-air BBC channels in the UK
BBC 1 - ( launched 1936) and original flagship mainstream channel with the usual mixture of entertainment, news, documentaries etc. This is where the big shows sit. Doctor Who? Traitors? BBC 1
BBC 2 - launched 1964. Originally home for more ambitious less mainstream programming. Still that to an extent.
BBC 3 - for da youth. Mainly entertainment. Launched as a digital service went web-only for a bit
BBC 4 - documentaries, music, arts, foreign films.
The are is also CBeebies - for preschoolers and CBBC for school aged kids, though I think sadly they have been killed off due to cuts.
There are a similar number of National BBC radio station, each with their own focus - pop, news and sport, drama, classical music etc. plus regional stations
It’s pretty awesome imho
Really cool, thank you!
Top Gear should have been BBC1 rather than BBC2
Yeh, I think it always had its home there because it originated as a niche motoring affairs programme before Clarkeson-May-Hammond.
I believe they are different TV channels owned by the BBC.
