Calgarians are being encouraged to take transit to visit the island and to help everyone get home safely from NYE celebrations. The CTrains will be running on extended hours until 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, and major bus lines will be running until 3 a.m.

    This year CBC cancelled their annual NYE Party, and we cancelled our cable anyway, so were curious about where to watch the festivities. calgary.ca linked to a simulcast on CJSW, so that was something at least.

    Sadly, the DJ droned on several minutes into what should have been the event, and was forcibly faded out so that we could hear half of the Indigenous blessing, followed by Gondek’s address. Worse, it was delayed by ~30 seconds, so that we could hear the fireworks going off before the mayor got to her countdown.

    Kind of a mess, honestly. I hope the ground show was good.
