Although on average the corrections failed to accomplish their objectives, they worked better when the issue in the correction was emotionally more positive than the misinformation, the correction matched the ideology of the recipients, the issue was not politically polarized, and the correction provided abundant details as to why the earlier claims were false.
That’s the first sentence of the average Facebook Epidemiologist.
What is missing is that I’m always searching to undermine said conclusion. When love fails me consistently I will concede that it doesn’t work. Usually it is a result of my own failings when that is the case, as I have found.
Regardless, I appreciate your skeptical comparison. You shouldn’t absorb information from anyone willy-nilly, including me. I don’t like appeals to authority and I believe one should test their knowledge on their own. I do encourage you to experiment, though, for I as I am now know that love works and my wish is for everyone to experience it. :)
