“We are very pleased to announce that the PinePhone will ship with Plasma Mobile on a Manjaro ARM base from this point on. We have a long-standing relationship with Manjaro and KDE Community, and both projects have supported us and our efforts since the dawn of PINE64,” writes Pine64’s Lukasz Erecinski in a February update.

This is good news as it means there is a single distro that will at least be standardised on and receive all the attention needed to ensure stability and compatibility. I use Manjaro myself on my desktop computer, and I’ve favoured KDE for a long time too. KDE Connect will bring some good integration between mobile and desktop too.

Seems like a good choice given that the Plasma Mobile developers are also focusing on the PinePhone now, so it should become quite optimized for it.

I’m a bit sad because I won’t get a KDE branded phone but now they might use that slick pine cone logo instead which would be really clean. Also I agree, I am really excited to see where kde mobile goes. It and Lomiri are both super cool mobile environments, and I think they both have really good convergence potential.

Looks like you will still be able to buy (and donate through it) community edition branded replacement backplates.

Don’t they still have KDE edition for sale? I know they sold out of the Manjaro and Mobian editions, but thought they still had some with the KDE backplate.
