In two campaigns currently. One character is Lan Mal’kier, an eldritch knight human. Village was destroyed by aberrations as a child, classic revenge story with a twist of strange nightmares and abilities derived from the encounter with a mind layer.

Second character is Hulgram Wrathborn, grey dwarf drunken master monk. Parents were adventurers, they dropped him off at a monastery as a child before a quest and never returned. After years of training he receives rumours related to them and goes out to find them.

I’m assuming autocorrupt turned flayer into layer. A mind layer would be a funny concept. It’s a tiny centipede-like monster that seeks out zombies and lays it’s eggs in their empty heads. Over time it grows a new brain, dezombifying the target. The target then changes from undead to merely dead and tiny centepedes hatch from the brain and the process continues. Local druids continuously debate whether this process is “natural”.

This means you’re playing your EK more like a psionic origin type backstory, eh?

The second character would be very easy to hook into as a DM – just drop rumours or alcohol as needed to keep you on the rails.

Definitely autocorrupted lol, but that’s a cool idea!
