This is why, no matter how depressing and broken the world is, we must still nurture and cultivate our sense of justice and idealism and continue to do the work and try to make it a little better place, and keep trying even if we fail.
Otherwise, we too will live like the Russians. Apathy and pessimism will get you nowhere worth being.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and maybe that’s directly where we’re going. But the other direction certainly goes towards Russia and that’s not any better. I’ll take my good intentions and forge ahead into whatever unknown and unknowable possibilities the future holds, at least that way we’ve got a chance to get something good out of it eventually. If you’re going through hell – keep going.
