Recently I decided to finally port over two communities I had on the feddit.online PieFed instance before going absent there for a time. Few days ago I moved Nazposting! (a community based around the Touhou character Nazrin/Nyn), and today I’m moving over the other community, NC-SA Bops.

For those who don’t know, NC-SA Bops is a community I created to share music with the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license, a license that bars commercial use while requiring people to give the original musician credit, as well as ensuring those who make derivatives keep their works as non-commercial ones.

Some people may argue that this seems a bit restrictive, so why make a community about it? To that I would just be direct and say that we frankly have money involved in too many things, and that commercial use of freely created tracks is something that can easily be exploited, with users of tracks seeing major profits while the creator struggles to receive donations for their effort.

The BY-NC-SA license, in my eyes, allows for truly equitable freedom in content usage, especially in regards to music. It fosters free usage in projects, all without the original musician being taken financial advantage of, which arguably promotes a culture of overall generosity and support where people donate as a token of appreciation rather than run off without giving back, which so often can be the case.

I look forward to growing this community here on this instance, and building on it with the new ideas I’ve developed in creating another music community. Cheers!
