Pros:

Currently (as of Dec 19, 2024) this is the cheapest 3.5" hard drive that’s best for value.


The next closest in terms of value would be either the 8TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, or the 16TB Toshiba N300 Pro depending on your preference of same Price/GB with lower capital costs, or higher likelihood of availability for additional purchases >1.

The 12TB Seagate IronWolf is disqualified for this value based discussion as it’s sold by Amazon’s Refurb site from a 3rd party with an additional $107.99 for delivery charges.

    Seems alright for this high volume drive, fwiw it’s just a hair above the mythical $20/TB benchmark (though with inflation you never know when we’ll get that).
