The way the US works right now, the people don’t have the power to choose politicians who would not support Israel. It’s just a fact. We can change our lack of true democracy, but it’s going to take a while. In the meantime, bashing Biden and helping Trump get elected gave absolutely no help to Palestine. Trump’s own remarks make this clear. I don’t “accept genocide” but I have no choice, and as I’ve been trying to point out to people for the entire year, Trump is very obviously much worse on a dozen serious issues, including Ukraine, LGBT rights, immigration, financial and environmental and labor regulations, and corruption. So why get him elected over Palestine when he’s not going to help Palestine but will fuck over tons of other marginalized groups? That makes no sense.

They get manipulated about and distracted by certain issues. The people who want power know this and exploit topics such as guns, abortion, fear of crime, racism/nationalism, sexism, economic issues and taxes. Plenty of people vote republican because they have been convinced that Democrats will take their guns, allow in too many immigrants (with the implicit idea that immigrants are bad somehow), be worse on the economy, raise taxes, let criminals get off easy, reduce the influence of Christianity, and so forth.

There’s also the decades of propaganda about socialism and communism, and against social safety nets as well as government and anything run by the government vs a private entity. So basically, because they’re not very aware or well informed and all themselves to be convinced by propaganda.

Trying to court Trump voters was definitely a mistake. The strategy should have been to energize progressives.

I guess we could start saying to those people “I guess you hate LGBT” and “you’re complicit with refugees being deported” and “good job putting the last nail in the coffin of reproductive rights”. I mean, somehow they couldn’t say shit about those issues, just “OMG JOR BIDEN GENOCIDE” and ignored that letting Trump take office would be worse for Palestine as well as terrible about the aforementioned issues.
