May I introduce you to my savior, BTRFS
Oh come on most doctors still view stuff like scans on 720p VGA screens. It’s fine. High resolution imaging is important not hi res viewers.
This is like saying you need to have a 128k screen to view electron microscope images
Why would the medical field need 8k screens? They can just zoom in on a lower res display y’know? Nobody is looking at a screen with a magnifying glass
I think a possible application for 8k displays is the huge displays where the viewer is extremely close to the display. But that would still just be the same pixel density as a lower res display.
Another area I think high pixel density might be useful for is patterning. Like PCB manufacturing and other photoresist stuff. But that’s a problem already solved by much cheaper technologies
Like a brick in a washing machine
Device is set to power saver in this picture but I must say power saver doesn’t seem to be doing much. I don’t notice a reduction in performance nor see a improvement in battery life.
I just leave that on power saver if I am not doing anything resource hungry. Possibly out of habit
I am daily driving a Surface Pro 9
Drivers are okay. I had some problems with screen freezing but these were fixed easily with some kernel params.
With a full battery, I get 6 hours coding in C with VSCode and some browser tabs or 5 hours of YouTube playback. You’ll get about 8-9 hours if you are doing something like writing text
Gnome is fantastic for this form factor. Especially libadwaita stuff, as their HIG plays very nice with touchscreens.
A powerbank will give you practically infinite battery for a whole day. I love this machine so much…
I like how he levels up as he becomes less virgin
Truly a lost art after AI
It is. Instead of hardware rt, it just uses a software implementation of ray tracing to run on all GPUs, as it does not need to do that much ray tracing. As a side note: Teardown has its own engine.
It also boils down the fact RTX GPUs were not that popular when the game was released
Oh yeah. For example the game “Teardown” uses a software ray tracing for lighting. Most Minecraft shaders also do ray tracing I think…
Of course these are voxel based examples which are a lot easier on the processor. You need hardware ray tracing for high poly destructible structures and I have absolutely nothing against the technology.
I just don’t like how the technology is abused by studios to push out unoptimized games running at ~50 fps on 3090s
High performance lighting? We had a tool for that.
It was called texture baking.
Woah wtf is this the Mr. Fediverse itself
So you gotta do a full flush when you donate. Got it.
Brain organoids existed for a long time iirc
After I saw the demo where a scientist tought it how fly a (simulated) plane, I thought it was going to be an alternative to AI. Sad that there hasn’t been much development in this space
I’ve been enthusiastically watching The Thought Emporium build one
It also kind of takes its roots from my frustration with garbage in my home or leftover bullshit in my root
It’s not viable to ditch native packages 100% (like immutable distros). But a combination of two is pretty comfortable imo
But as I said, I am not comfortable with the way flatpak does some things
I know that word thanks to Linus Torvalds
