Yeah it really is. But there are even synthetics that are sufficient here. I’m just saying a base layer is very helpful.

You are a heater; a really good one. Better clothes will help you store and distribute that heat. If you aren’t wearing a wool base layer, it will be the single greatest change you can make.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone have experience cutting their own hair? Should I cut my own hair?
3·1 day agoIf you’re going to try the scissor route, I recommend you aim for messed up. Like anime style, lots of different lengths going lots of directions. Then you might actually do something nifty. If you try to do anything even or any fades, you’ll have a very hard time.
I shave my head daily in the shower. It feels good, requires no mirror, and always looks consistent. Have been doing it for years.

Programming@programming.dev•Can we possibly do without apps on PCs ?
22·3 days agoHow will you use the machine without applications?
I’m a big fan of keepachangelog. The only automation I recommend is that this is read from tag to tag and used as nice releases. But a human writing the changelog directly in the “Unreleased” section will always produce the most useful changelog.

News@lemmy.world•Driver livestreams herself on TikTok as she apparently hits and kills man in Chicago
31·3 days agoAgain, not defending her, but what? Just because she was being reckless, doesn’t mean running over a person was intentional. That is why one would get charged with something like manslaughter rather than murder. Or maybe she was saying “I’m about to run this guy over. Watch this.” But that wasn’t in the story.

314·4 days agoI think it is a bad thing no matter what. Sounds like it was an accident, so even if it was Peter Theil, that woman has to live with that.
Just want to clarify, what she did was not okay on any level. Phones in the console; eyes on the road people. But it is still a bad day when you realize you took somebody’s life because you were irresponsible. At least, I assume for most people.

6·4 days agoDidn’t say you called anyone unstable.
I haven’t seen a stable Linux except for steam os.
What you did, was call Linux unstable. Which is just objectively untrue. I’m not attacking you. On the contrary, I generally try to be helpful about it. But what you did was say something toxic, maybe accidentally and then call others toxic for pointing that out. Bottom line, Linux isn’t unstable.

Programming@programming.dev•Seeking Opinions on Default Value Support in Named Parameter Feature
3·4 days agoOkay. You must realize it is weird to use the term “development team” to describe a one person side project. Also, are you willing to disclose to what extent and which models were used to create this project?
I think personally both are great, and both are great for the community; in different ways. Chess.com is a bit “pay pay pay please” for my taste but they do host a ton of events and sponsor many things. The interface is quite good and the cheating control is quite good.
Lichess is better though, in my view. It is much more open, the interface is lightyears better in my view and the study / analysis tools are better too. However, reporting is much more cumbersome, because on mobile for example, you have to get a share link to the game, then use the website to report and actually explain in prose why you suspect foul play, even though simple click reports should be at least partially useful for trend analysis. However, their actual detection seems good too.
All told, both are great ways to play chess, both use good rating systems (Glicko 1 and 2), both control cheating pretty well, and both suck the life out of me one bullet game at a time.

3·4 days agoForgive me if I sound negative, but when you say team… what do you mean? Seems like one person with a few commits. Not that it isn’t a very serious attempt at tackling a massive challenge; I’m just curious. Looks a bit like a vibe coded attempt at solving a few things you don’t like about Java. And hey, more power to you.

Videos@lemmy.world•How I'd fix Windows as a retired Windows Engineer
9·4 days agoIt can be, because it is huge. But I’m pretty sure it is more toxic to call something unstable because you don’t understand it than to point that fact out. Now, if you have a concrete complaint or question, I’d be happy to try and help, but stability isn’t your issue. There are machines that have been running for decades.

It is useful for the group of people that think. It can be helpful to really listen to a differing view, if coming from a thoughtful individual.
But arguing the existence of angels, shape of the earth, if blacks are whole people, or if women should be treated like individuals with volition, etc… not worth it.
