  • Does anyone remember margarine? It’s mostly as good as any other butter, was historically much cheaper, and actually better in things like butter cream frosting (makes it lighter and fluffier).

My wife has developed an allergy to dairy in the last 5 years and all these alternative butters are ridiculously overpriced, but many of them seem to just be margarine with vegan butter branding Some of them like Miyokos are kinda terrible sometimes, or smell like fish oil when heated in a pan.

In printing it’s a little different, but if you need an exact color you can add it to the process, much like adding a varnish or other fancy finish.

Orange was always a problem when I was a designer. It had to be specific, you had to send a Pantone chip along, hope it hadn’t faded or changed color over the years (or buy new ones constantly) and then it still came out different than planned.

  • My wife and I have said the same thing about our son when he’s had a cold. But never when he could hear us.

It’s a bummer that he’s such a good kid, but winds up when tired after school. Except when he’s sick, then he’s a calm dude who just wants to sit and read, and is happy to wash hands, eat dinner, and head to bed without thinking.

He’s even said he’d rather not play games or screen time. It’s too bad he’s feeling like shit those times though.

  • I thought that when I got started, but I really enjoy the building and briefly enjoy the results. Then I’m happy for the owner to take it away while I cross my fingers that it all keeps working.

It’s equal parts problem solving, fine motor skills, and perseverance that keep me working on old cars. That’s why I’m not at a dealership or quick turnaround repair place.

    It’s also why I’m poor

  • Also kids learn to rhyme words around preschool and will invent the bad words anyway while babbling away. Most people give them a pass on this I think though.

We let our son know when he found words that aren’t appropriate for public use both when he “made them up” and when he heard people using it in songs or other people talking, or mom and dad in traffic occasionally.

He got the concept right away, but he’s also a great kid who wants please most of the time, especially at school or in public.
