  • The rate of burglary is 271 per 100k per year in the US but nobody doubts it exists. If the rate of weasels ripping off deposits was 1 in 20 which is incredibly high and you sampled 10 instances the chance of getting zero is 0.95^10. That is to say the chance that someone would rent 10 times in such a market and not have someone try to rip you off is ~60%. Your sample size isn’t meaningful even if it were random.

Always makes me wonder what other people do to their houses to fuck them up so bad.

You figured people must all be doing damage to lose their deposit. Lots of people don’t understand what their rights are or what to do to protect them because the poor are habituated to the reality that they don’t have much in the way of rights.

Here let me help you. Landlords vary wildly in quality and decline quickly as you go down in price furthermore being ignorant of your rights or lacking in options due to money are both easy routes to getting fucked. Not understanding that people pretty regularly get fucked out of their deposits because you haven’t is like wondering why other people get raped when you have avoided it.

  • People so stupid as to believe this crap are on average too stupid to change their mind by communicating with them. You don’t win them over any more than you convince creationists or flat earthers. Picture a series of concentric circles. In the center is 20% of the US pop true MAGA believers. They are unconvincable and vocal. Neither they nor their audience reacts to reasoned careful discussion. You humiliate them and make them look like the evil garbage they are. The next 15% or so is watching the humiliation and getting quieter. The next 10% at the fringes you pick away as the bottom 20% get less and less cool.

By the time the entire group has shrunk from 45 to 35 rendering it perceptibly impotent to get anything done and making its proponents look like losers. The 15% publicly claims not to have been that into you and even the true believers get quieter.

People rely on social proof of truth more than logic or reason.

In the US white supremacist ideals are held by 1 in 10 but publicly these are humiliating ideas to hold and defend and as long as this is so they wont be making a come back

  • Ads are…already a thing. Shit like putting candy crush which allows you to spend real money to pay to win. Search suggestions in the start menu. The app store is an attempt at an Apple style money grab except the money grab only exists on the apple side because its the only way to get apps on the machine and MS never got much out its store in comparison.

Ads and subscriptions would already have happened if they had succeeded in using secure boot to lock machines out of alternative OS

Obsoleting a lot of relatively recent fast hardware means people are either faced with a fuck off or complicated work arounds. Then there is forcing people to log in with their MS email account which they may not have or want or again forcing people into complicated work arounds. The implicit privacy issues of recall if it was rolled out as planned.

Ads in the windows UI both exiting and planned. The fact that they have discussed the idea of making Windows a monthly/annual fee.

Then the carry overs from 10 The fact that the start menu search is less useful than any linux DE or windows XP Re-enabling crap that people disabled on purpose Certain kinds of links opening in Edge even if people use chrome

  • My concern twofold

A: Without evidence I have a hard time seeing planting bombs in devices was solely targeted at fighters. Odds are an entire shipment was targeted and many people who weren’t Hezbollah received bombs

B: Blowing up devices that were by definition carried everywhere certainly killed families and associates who didn’t deserve to die.

During the Iraqi war we considered Iraqi leadership targets and I wouldn’t have been surprised if they considered our leadership targets as well. If they had in fact only killed Hezbollah I would have no problem with the attack.
