7·4 days agoSure, but if you didn’t have to work to survive which one would you be?
Work is the surest way to suppress personality, real you only comes up when you don’t struggle to survive.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who were some of your childhood heroes that turned out to be horrible people?
641·4 days agoBill Gates, Warren Buffet, George Soros. I had a period where I appreciated people who played the system to get rich. Before I understood the system itself is the problem.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your opinion on prostitution?
71·9 days agoDepends if you count porn as prostitution. They are doing it for money but not with you as the final customer.
Not a fan of actual person-to-person prostitution, however it shouldn’t be illegal. That being said, forced prostitution is a huge problem that must be addressed.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is the role of a government to do the will of the people, or to do whats right for the country?
31·10 days agoGovernment is the people. By that I mean people who are the government are a subset of people. They don’t have any additional insight into the world than a voter, although they might have more information.
Also voters are not a monolith, everyone wants something different. Sometimes very opposite things.
The best that can be done is trying to find a good way to achieve what the majority of voters want while not completely screwing over those who disagree.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Where do you think we'd be in the current AI craze if the pandemic never happened?
9·11 days agoYes but I’m not sure LLMs would be the focus. Back in 2018-2019 we were already in an AI craze. Investors were throwing billions at it (compared to trillions now).
However LLMs were seen as little more than interesting toys by researchers. Conversational models were secondary compared to image recognition and generation which was considered way more cool than text.
Any astophysiologists here? Is this accurate?

29·21 days agoHow fascinating it must be to live on so much history. Although probably not the most comfortable house ever, not without major adaptations.
Small anecdote: A few years ago I had a chance to visit Perugia, Italy. Rented an Airbnb in the medieval city, and at first impression it wasn’t very good. A cramped small apartment in a medieval building. Even worse the only window looked straight at a wall.
Turns out it wasn’t just any wall. It was a 2500 years old Etruscan wall. Which was damaged by forces of Augustus in the Perusine War. Once you know what you’re looking at, traces of this event 2000 years ago were still quite visible on the wall. Mindblowing feeling.

Having a social life is the key. It’s more likely to meet someone you get along with if you keep hanging out with a larger group of people you get along with. Rather than relying on an almost random app algorithm.
