I’m sure there’s feedback to be gained by actually releasing something, but I bet they’d like more people to actually use it. But yeah, it doesn’t look like there’s tons of apps being developed for it. They do keep reiterating how many companies are using it. Curious what their next version will look like.
It does help by building out the ecosystem though and getting feedback for future versions. And it exists, which is more than can be said about Orion.
Yes, it’s super confusing. They’ve actually renamed a lot of stuff to “Horizon”.
The app is called “Meta Horizon”, the operating system is called “Meta Horizon OS”, there’s “Horizon Workrooms”, the “Horizon Feed”, and the previously mentioned “Horizon Home”, non of these have anything to do with “Horizon Worlds” which is the thing everyone thinks of when they heard that word.
Not horizon worlds, horizon home. That’s the “Home Screen” of the quest where people appear if you join them on a call.
You can play it in vr or flat as I understand it
I’ve opened a Pull Request for this. They’re not perfect, but probably better than not having anything at all.
Haha with that cover it could be “Zuckerberg is funding a puppy orphanage” and people would still downvote it
This has been the hope for many Echo VR players after Meta shut it down a year ago. I can’t wait for them to open it up to the public.
I‘m glad you like it, I wasn’t sure what people were going to think but the old one looked very dated :)
I‘m probably wrong, I thought it was in the video, but it says “upgrade from the original”, so you’re probably right. Makes this an even better deal since the dlcs are even more expensive than the upgrade then
You can also play different instruments together with others. I like that idea.
I think they said “starting at $10”, maybe it also depends on how many dlcs you own, since the remake has them all? Not sure though. But at 5 bucks is definitely worth trying this.
The don‘t seem to understand that announcing games when they’re very far from ready isn’t a good idea, half of what they tease never sees the light of day.
Really enjoyed that game on Quest. The movement feels nice, it has some interesting levels and gameplay (including bosses), and has a nice length as well. Definitely recommend checking it out.
Yeah, but both for a regular chair that rotates and this one that shouldn’t be the issue, since you’re actually turning. I think I initially got sick because of the “walking forward in game and swiveling around in real live”.
It definitely looks like an interesting idea, but yeah it could be really bad. Perhaps it does work though, in that case it‘s mix of sitting and physically turning. I guess we’ll see
Not entirely sure if this helps with motion sickness or makes it worse. When I first started playing VR I was too exhausted to keep standing and used a rotating chair for a bit, which pretty much instantly made me sick.
That was basically the only time I got sick, I don’t have an issue with loopings, flying, etc. Could just be that I wasn’t as used to it yet though.
In addition to what Emotet said, I‘d add that no matter how closed or open the platform is (and it isn’t even as closed up) no one outside of Lemmy will care as long as it’s a compelling package.
Well said
I’m assuming you’re talking about Orion? Because that’s still years away, if they ever end up shipping at all. Meta has the tendency to promise a lot.
