It’s so sad how awful the end user support has gotten. Even when you’re paying Big Money to big hardware makers who make you pay for support packages, you’re talking to Malaysia or India or a few in South America. Pinching pennies into dust when they’re making money hand over fist for the support contracts. When most end user engineers are only opening tickets when it’s dire problems due to how awful the experience is.
The costs of the servers will crush a lot of instances. I can’t imagine the hosting costs the main kbin and lemmy instances have right now, and it’ll only go up as people join in. I think we’ll see server managers start asking for donations to cover the costs sooner and frequently. And when people don’t donate, they’ll have to resort to ads. And if an instance is really popular but barely afloat, some big fish comes along and offers to buy it from them for a decent price. Classic strategy.
Meta may say it wants to start its own instance, but just wait until they see how most instances have refused to federate with them and they’ll be sniffing around one of the popular instances trying to buy or offering a nice package to federate. By then, users will be established and not leave immediately.

In general: If the court orders you to do something, like let’s say you get court-ordered rehab, you have to pay for it. So since they ordered surveillance app, they had to pay for it.
Since husband’s in jail, why have app?: Because nobody’s told her she is allowed to remove it since her husband’s been locked up. So she’s trying to be as cautious as possible since something dumb threw him back in.

YES, there was little evidence AND there still isn’t conclusive evidence that it was. They just used it as a reason to be racist toward Asian (and it did provably increase hate crime toward Asian people).

YES, if people would have actually isolated, we would have had far fewer cases shortly after.
Was it antiscience to say cloth masks were ineffective?
YES, they are still effective and far better than not wearing a mask at all.
Was it antiscience to question the long term efficacy/long term side effects (I’m combining 2 questions here) of a drug that was not studied for the long term?
YES, the vaccine was not given to people widespread until after thorough testing. It’s fact that almost any vaccine side effect will occur within the first few weeks of it being administered. There was also information and testing about the efficacy before it was widely distributed.
People questioning this stuff were given the answers by scientists, specialists, people with knowledge, and they outright denied the truth of the data. It’s one thing to question, it’s another thing to yell questions into the void and pretend you don’t hear the answers.
