  • What I’m reading is that they want to deport Americans in “mixed status families”, and then go after them as criminals when they don’t just continue paying taxes and fulfilling the ridiculous reporting requirements as they try to resettle their life in a new home and the US demands that their new local residence actually be treated as foreign assets. Which is great for the rich, because it basically saturates the system in such a way that the focus is taken away from rich tax evaders and tax avoidance schemes as it is driven to deal with these new “criminals”.

Ending birthright citizenship would lead to a lot of relief from the people leaving the US who are seeking renunciation - except I have a feeling that greed and the aforementioned reasons are going to find a way to still make them have to seek it.

  • Real solutions that don’t bypass the system are difficult to implement. Harris proposed hiking up the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28% that their CEOs financed and used their corporations to begin to favor Trump. She was also upping the taxes rich people payed. It’s funny how people who want to “eat the rich” and want to fight “corporate greed” often play to their interests.

Trump is not going to be uselessly providing solutions. Don’t confuse his public-to-private funneling schemes catering to populisms as his policy. He’s going to provide very real solutions - for the rich - and the US, as known to the middle “you can actually play by the rules and be assured a relatively comfort rich place in society” class, will likely never recover from a second term now well aware of what it is and what it should cater to. In the years to follow, I don’t think the “one nation, undivided” Civil War legacy is going to remain the sacrosanct gospel of times past, and some states that never have considered it before will have to consider secession - while states that have had no problem screaming about it in the past will suddenly become “defenders of the union”.

  • He also normalized hosting kid’s content and adult/gambling content on the same platform. Anyone who tried to open up a game store that also sold adult material would get crucified nowadays.

The reason Steam is praised so much is because unlike EA and Activision, regardless of what they try to push that they shouldn’t, they do put in the effort of going back and looking at issues from gamer’s eyes. Those cosmetics? They came about at a time when P2W was much more of a concern, and paying for something merely visual was considered much more acceptable. Early access? It came about from trying to open up development to more indies instead of just the big devs and publishers. Licensing instead of owning? The alternative were much more costly physical copies that also degraded with time and which you had to maintain a backup of yourself. If your local game store didn’t have it, you were screwed, and there could be no discounts. Porn on the platform? Don’t care, not a child and I’m responsible.

Even then, I still damn Valve on both normalizing licenses on a subscription service that were it not for its market dominance could easily be teetering right now along with most people’s game library’s, and for not bothering to make an adult/gambling only version of a game store. GOG needs a competitor (remember Devotion and now Nine Sols), and it has none. It is possible to make money and be a digital distribution service without being a subscription service. There should be far more distance between adult and predatory content and normal gaming content, not all parents are responsible and it more easily creates communities predators can target from overlapping interests.

  • The problem is that the community you might want to be involved with might be under them. The mods do not represent a community, and may even work against it. This is sort of what happened in reddit’s worldnews, where its mods have worked to make it be the neozionist hotspot it is today.

You end up doing pretty much what you do in reddit if you want to continue participating in a community, just creating another alt and try to post when the asshole mods are not active. Most people don’t just move on to the discount alternative community with 90% less people participating in it.

The whole algorithm of what a community is really needs to be reworked, but most people on lemmy just seem to want discount reddit.

  • The problem is this is the US. This is the world’s most major superpower. This is the nation whose companies fed and propped up the Nazis. Because what little of democracy there was in the US is now certainly going to fall, it’s going to drag the whole world with it. Too many shitheads in too many countries, including Germany, will be willing to follow suit, and all the major superpowers left will be all too willing to prop them up with little to no regard for what rules they won’t break in the process. We might even see the US trying to strong-arm nations in the same way China has been trying to strong-arm Taiwan. At a time where the surveillance and control tools at their disposal are at a dystopian high. At a time ramping up for chaos due to major environment and resource collapses that we have been foreseeing for decades.
