Hehe I still have one for the National NV-300. It used a pair of wires and each button presented a different resistance. Only issue was if you half pressed a button it might think you hit record.

I bought just one cooked chicken the other day. Being in a hurry I scanned it, placed it on the output area and hit pay now.
Machine said to wait for help, so I went to another and repeated the process with the same result.
When the operator came, I think I saw a video of myself scanning the chook quickly play back. So I guess either it didn’t get to recognize my face, or thought I was scanning something else.
Now I’m intrigued and will see if I can do it again some time.

I’m in Australia. We might be a bit nuts over here but at least we have Medicare. Private health insurance is optional and becoming increasingly expensive, but the public system, although stressed, covers everyone.
We do pay a Medicare levy in our taxes but it’s nothing like USA costs. A few hundred a year I think.
