Yeah, this is giving me “disbanding the watchdog organization in Wuhan, China to save taxpayer dollars” vibes.

It’s this. A rational person would be fine with the court order, because Trump’s argument was that it wasn’t legal to continue funding SNAP.

But Trump and Republicans aren’t rational. They “lost” the court battle and now must appeal to save face. The subject of the court order is irrelevant - fascist ideology does not permit the autocracy to admit defeat or allow their absolute rule to be challenged.

It’s so simple and yet so damn infuriating. Why are people still under this spell even after everything that has happened?

If the sole reason you have a Costco membership is for the hotdogs, then I would agree, but for the vast majority of people the reason they shop at Costco is to buy items in bulk and save money compared to buying the same amount at the local chain grocery store.

It’s not even because the hotdog itself is particularly good. It’s your standard beef frankfurter and a fountain soda. There’s no magic with the item from a culinary standpoint. It’s the fact that they still haven’t raised the price on it when they almost certainly could have done so silently a long time ago and nobody would have noticed or cared. It’s the one act of upper management bothering to think about their customers for a change rather than just gouging every single cent they can get out of their members because some math formula told them that it was possible.

If they claim they know that these boats have drugs on them, they could just apprehend them when they made port.

But then they would have to actually find said drugs to use as evidence to prosecute them.

This is just extrajudicial murder, plain and simple. I hope Trump and everyone who is involved with this dies an excruciatingly painful death.

Sometimes they can’t even win when Trump is on the ballot. Seems more accurate to say that they can’t win unless a woman is on the democratic ticket.

Ubisoft took one risk back in the mid-late 2000s and have been riding that safety wave ever since with asscreed. It started last week, but only amounted to flight delays. I anticipate that things are unlikely to improve and will only get worse as more and more ATCs call in sick in protest.

My prediction is that it will end this week when federal ATC employees stop showing up for work, thus directly affecting the quality of life of republican lawmakers and their billionaire donors. That’s exactly why the last “longest shutdown in history” ended too.

Starving people? Hardly an inconvenience to the ultra rich. Can’t fly their private jet? One phone call to Trump and the shutdown is over that afternoon.

Okay? We can still compare Helsinki to a similar sized American city. I don’t see how that’s unfair.

Can the UN even do anything to the United States if they have a unilateral security council veto? I would think that the USA would successfully find a way to argue that sanctioning them for crimes against humanity is not considered a “procedural” decision.

Helsinki just had 0 traffic deaths this past year because they focused all their funding on improving public transportation and bike lanes, disincentivizing car use, and punishing motorists who use their phone or speed by setting up cameras.

I sure wish somebody would look at that incredible success story and try to emulate it here. Unfortunately, public transit seems to be getting less reliable over time instead, which just encourages more car use.
