Economics is man made concept that can be changed at will
Possibly the most naive statement in history. Holy shit, read a history book.

Yeah, this is effectively illegal in every conservative state.
Oklahoma is very much not Ontario
BREAKING NEWS: Propaganda works. More at 7.
That’s not how economics works. Like at all. It’s what a 10 year old would do if given control of the economy.
You thought inflation was bad before lol
You can’t make the minimum the average lol
Just because your union has 2 weeks vacation that doesn’t mean they all do.
I’m not really jazzed about it, but the alternative seems worse. Maybe if we could boost the rest of the economy enough that the real estate crash would be counterbalanced - but if we do that we risk inflation again.
If they spent a million on new city owned no rent housing
…they would get laughed out of the room? That barely buys a single condo in an existing building in SF.
If they did literally nothing else, and ignored all the people who overdose and die of exposure and end up sick etc etc…just did absolutely nothing and saved their budget for 10 years, MAYBE they could approach a partnership to THINK about breaking ground on a single building. Which would take 20 years to build.
Building new homes is just such an expensive approach that it’s not worth considering in SF.
Much as I hate bailing out the rich, I also hate recessions.
We should be pouring money (yes, taxpayer money) into buying and demolishing these office towers, and building housing instead. Apartments and condos. The downtowns that are thriving now are the ones where people actually live there.
It’s very similar to the mentality that those anti-student loan forgiveness folks have. “It’s unfair that I had to slave away to pay off my student loans and they don’t. So I want everybody else to suffer just as much as I did.”
I know this is a tangent but I want to bring it up. Some of us are opposed to student loan forgiveness because it’s a one time handout to millennials that does nothing to actually fix the problem. Not just because we demand other people suffer.
I don’t read that section as blaming the Fed per se. Just explaining one consequence of the Fed raising interest rates.
One of the most badass album titles of all time: The Shovel vs The Howling Bones
I guess you’ve never lived in or even bothered to research SF at all. That’s the only possible way you could make such a wildly, ridiculously wrong statement. San Francisco has spent a BILLION DOLLARS on homelessness. Billion.
Per year, for the last several years.
What a ridiculous lie. “Done nothing”. Christ, a single Google search would prove you wrong. That’s a “the sky is yellow” level of absurd lie. It’s insulting.

Dude had God Himself running scared
Thank you…Republicans? Wait what is happening
I mean, okay, if they redirect that entire billion a year to building housing (ignoring the fact that a decent portion of the homeless problem would be solved via DEATH), they could throw up housing complexes with that money. But it doesn’t change the timeline a lot.
Quick and dirty math:
Building affordable housing in SF costs about a million per unit. There are about 4400 unsheltered people in the city. So we’re looking at about 4.4 years of our $1bn/yr budget.
And remember, providing housing is only one small part of keeping people off the streets. Bills, addiction, mental issues, discrimination - we are doing nothing on that front. Preventing people from falling into homelessness? Can’t do it, we’re building housing.
