I’m with you. I’ve noticed that folks on Lemmy get very upset when you try to explain that, broadly speaking, digital privacy is hardly more than theater. Everything you do online is being fingerprinted, watched, cataloged, organized, and tied back to you and the devices you use either directly or indirectly. There are steps you can take to reduce this exposure, which you pointed out, but nothing that fully negates it.

This is because we do not have strong enough laws protecting digital privacy, there are either no penalties or weak penalties for companies violating privacy - even in the most egregious ways - and heaps of money to be made from engaging in such violations.

The majority of the populace just doesn’t seem to care, and this can only change when we’ve achieved widespread awareness and public support.

Tracing and verifying sources is standard academic writing procedure. While you definitely can’t trust anything an LLM spits out, you can use them to track down certain types of sources more quickly than search engines. On the other hand, I feel that’s more of an indictment of the late-stage enshittification of search engines, not some special strength of LLMs. If you have to use one, don’t trust it, demand supporting links and references, and verify absolutely everything.

Remote work has been studied extensively for decades and the findings overwhelmingly show that remote workers, when provided the right tools and support, are significantly more productive. Demanding people commute to an office was never about productivity.

You appear to be conflating Capitalism with the concept of free markets. They are wholly different and distinct concepts, regardless of what Capitalism’s propagandists would like everyone to believe.

Capitalism, being an economic dogma that worships private ownership and relentless pursuit and hoarding of wealth, actively incentivizes behavior that destroys free markets: trusts, monopolies, oligopolies, regulatory capture, sabotage, patents, union busting, mergers and acquisitions, financialization, and more, gradually eroding any free market until it no longer meaningfully exists.

Right now, what little money I can spare goes to World Central Kitchen. Money is just too tight these days. I’d consider contributing to the project, but only if the repositories were moved somewhere other than Github/Microsoft.

• Aggressively prosecute any and every government employee who violated anyones civil rights during this administration.

• Ban gerrymandering with severe personal criminal penalties for violators, remedies for repeat violations (redrawn by a federal commission) and require immediate redrawing of all noncompliant district maps.
• Enshrine important Constitutional protections using Congressional legislation, preventing courts from further corrupting Constitution through bad faith re-interpretation.
• Anti-corruption Laws. Require public servants to completely divest themselves of stock private interests while dramatically improving base pay. Ban trading and investments by anyone serving, whether elected or appointed.
• 95% income tax rate for rental income from low-density residential property after $250k

This is just my opinion, but if a game doesn’t work on Linux/SteamOS then it was never worth playing to begin with.

Blowing the ending can - and often does - retroactively ruin an entire narrative. This comic is akin to saying “a bad punchline doesn’t ruin a whole joke.” It does.
