I’ve always thought if us Europeans are gonna downplay the quality of their league as tier 3 or 4 equivelant by English standards, we have to give them due credit for turning up to watch it each week - especially when they could be watching elite Basketball, American Football etc as you say.

Also that figure comes without the help of significant away followings boosting the figures. If the US was scaled down to have the population density of any of the ‘big 5’ leagues, I suspect that figure would go up by a couple thousand.

No surprise, people don’t care about football in France as much as say in Germany, Spain or Italy. It’s getting more popular among those of immigrant descent in France, but not so much among the general population.

Germany is wealthy, has nice big stadiums. Also, Germany has 85m people, bigger cities, bigger supporter groups, bigger everything than the whole rest of Europe. It’s no surprise that they score big in this kind of statistics.

There’s also no pro rugby teams like there is in England and France so football has an even bigger share of support

its astoinily how small out domestic TV deal is, basically adjusted for Population and median income Bundesliga TV deal should be 4x La liga and 3x Seria A but its only a bit bigger then seria A and tie with la liga. basically germans dont seem to willing to spend insane mony on football. wich is in my opinion a good thing.

      bigger cities

which funnily enough is where Germany is a big outlier. We have a lot of medium sized cities and some metro areas but our “biggest” cities are smaller than you might think considering our population

Germany has a big and spread out population as well, which probably helps. If Paris had 10 football teams in Ligue 1 like London does in the Barcleys, their attandence could be a lot higher

Not surprised. Ive been living in Paris for a couple years now and even though I have so many friends that are huge football fans there isnt a big “going to the stadium” fan base. I’ve talked to friends and other people that have been living in Paris all their life and are fans of PSG and have never been to a game in their life. Even though there are specificities to this like the fact that its super expensive to go watch a game at the Parc des Princes I believe it also has to do with the fact that the culture of going to your team’s game just isnt as big here.

Only one team in Paris means the stadium is full anyway (45 000+). The low attendance come from club with smaller stadium (Reims, Brest), less club history (Clermont) and no supp culture (Monaco).

Clermont has the 3rd highest attendance in %. Reims and Brest despite having small stadium can’t get them full.

And that’s the main problem of Ligue 1, aside from Paris, absolutely no other clubs are restricted by the size of their stadium, since they can’t get fill the one they already got.

While almost every single german clubs have an average above 95%, in France we have only one. Paris.
