When severe weather threatens, Environment Canada issues alerts that notify those in affected areas in Manitoba so that they can take steps to protect themselves and their property from harm. The type of alert issued depends on the severity and timing of the event. Special statements: issued to highlight significant weather or express uncertainty. Watches: alert you about weather conditions that are favourable for a storm or severe weather, which could cause safety concerns. Warning: an urgent message that severe weather is either occurring or will occur. Warnings are usually issued six to 24 hours in advance, although some severe weather (such as thunderstorms and tornadoes) can occur rapidly, with less than a half hours' notice.

11:48 a.m. CDT Wednesday 28 June 2023 Tornado Watch in effect for:

City of Winnipeg Conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds and weak tornadoes in southern Manitoba this afternoon. Hail to the size of golf balls and rainfall in excess of 50 mm are also possible.

Thunderstorms should move into Ontario late this evening.

Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.

    Just starting to build now for the show tonight. I hope that cool air swirl from Hudson’s Bay doesn’t keep sinking down or crop damage could be massive. :/
