It’s so weird. He is consistently bottom 5 or 10 in almost all stats, and yet his career record is 13-7. The Steelers haven’t had particularly stunning offenses the last two years, and their defenses have been statistically middle of the pack. It’s almost crazy that he has a winning record considering these are his game stats in his wins this season.
- 15/30, 222 yards, 1 td, 1 int, 71.8 rating
- 16/28, 235 yards, 2 tds, 108.5 rating
- 18/32, 224 yards, 1 td, 88.5 rating
- 17/25, 230 yards, 97.1 rating
- 19/30, 160 yards, 1 td, 88.2 rating
- 14/23, 126 yards, 75.6 rating
that means per win, he’s averaging
- 16.5/28, 199.5 yards, 0.8 td, 0.1 int, 79.2 rating
I can’t think of a single team that would have a winning record with this quarterback play, and yet the Steelers continue to win. It’s so odd.
I have a little insight.
The patriots won a lot of games because belichick knew how to keep games close. Brady knew how to be great under pressure…throw in cheating… you have a winningest dynasty.
The steelers coaches, Tomlin and co, know how to keep games close. But instead of using their QB to win it, they use everything else and try to minimize Pickett because they know he isnt capable of taking over games as a passer. Hr can do ok within offensive structure suited to him…but the Rooneys saddled themwith Pickett only because they didnt draft Dan Marino last time around and eould rather pay the 1st to watch Pickett bust then spend eternity kicking themselves for failing again.
Pickett isnt asked to do a whole lot because he cant. His stays bear that out. Its still giving steelers a chance to win and they have had some luck. Not too many situational screw ups.
