Hell yeah it was. Redditors are gonna bitch and whine and say the statement is wrong but the evidence is all over the place. Repeated failures of Belichik disciples, and whatever the fuck this season is. Not to say neither have their virtues, but Tom Brady was the Dude. Everything else was supplementary.
I do think Belichick hate is getting out of hand but there is something to be said about the 2001 team. The question is that if Drew was healthy that full season. Do the pats win the Super Bowl ? I think not. I do think Brady in 2001 showed something and bill saw that and made the choice to bench Drew and go with Brady. Brady did a lot more than people saw.
Why does it have to be one or the other, why can’t it be that they both needed each other
Jimmy shouldn’t be included in this. He was good in SF.
Multiple things can be true:
Tom Brady is the greatest QB of all time.
Numerous coordinators were good to great and still made shitty head coaches.
Belichick was a Hall of fame caliber defensive coach before Brady was playing college ball, let alone in the NFL.
Neither Bill or Brady would have six rings without one another, as together they were the perfect storm.
God, I was so excited for the Patriots to finally suck but the inane hot take merchants have me wanting the Pats to make a deep playoff run just to shut them up I fucking hate this.
There seems to be a narrative among people here that Brady was not a good QB in the early years. And that the dynasty was defense based.
This is simply not true. Drew Bledsoe was an above average QB, yet with the Patriots lack of weapons, went 5-13 with Belichick.
Brady took over a team most thought was bottom 5 in the league, and went 14-3. Finishing Top 10 in the major passing stats.
In 2002 he led the NFL in TDs, despite not having a 1,000 yard receiver. In 2003 he was third in MVP voting. In 2005 he received MVP and OPOY votes.
All well winning 3 Super Bowls and 2 Super Bowl MVPs.
Why can’t we just view them as a team instead of separating them
