    Obviously clickbait to capitalise on United’s poor form, but this is actually quite common recently.

    Lots of players from lots of clubs are purposely ripping holes in their socks pre-game out of the belief (right or wrong) that the tension is causing discomfort and/or higher risk of injruy.

      The holes in socks is more of a trend than anything else. You see it with younger players mostly. It’s a thing that caught on. That it cutting holes gives you better movement/freedom.

      There was a huge issue in the MLS with people cutting off their socks so they could wear a brand of non slip socks. Big fines, uneven enforcement.

        Still happens in the premier league, look at a lot of players and you’ll see they are wearing the grippy socks with the sleeve of their actual sock above it. Its just hidden better as they colour match the two socks. Its also very popular with the high level kids where I live, practically every academy is wearing them.
