The height of El Clásico, Ronaldo v Messi and arguably the two most dominant teams of the last decade or so. However which team was more successful during this time period.
I think I lean towards Madrid barely
Its close but its Real Madrid. Winning CL even a single time is a dream from many players and clubs. Winning it 3 times in a row and 4 times in 5 years is humongous. Imagine the mental fortitude and consistency at the highest level required to accomplish this feat. This has to be the biggest sporting achievement ever by any club/group of players (although ofc RM itself also won it 5 times in a row during the 50s).
While the three-peat is one of the greatest achievements in football history, I’ll have to remind you that Real only could do it because we had already lost the league in ‘16 and ‘18.
Our squad (I am a Real fan) was filled with big game players, but over the course of a season, we couldn’t hold up against Barca. We never managed a treble win, which Barca did twice.
Still, winning 3 UCLs in a row is insane. Many clubs go all in on the UCL instead of the league every year, and still don’t win. We did that 2 years in 3, and dominated in 2017. However, we wouldn’t have done it had Barca not been the overall better team during our three-peat stint, ironically.
Good point . But don’t forget that barca won the treble twice in the period OP mentioned which is a dream for madridistas
I’m a little mixed on this.
On one hand, Barcelona definitely had more domination. On the other, Madrid won the 3peat when no other club had even managed to get 2 in a row prior.
Regardless, we were spoilt by that era of football and doubt we ever see anything like that again. Truly blessed to see that era of Classico.
Ha, that’s a difficult one to be honest. Because while Barcelona was obviously enjoying win after win of La Liga title over Real Madrid, Real was setting Champions League record. I’d say it’s a tight one.
Got to be Barca.
Madrid went all in on European level competition, and yeah they’ve got one more European Cup in that time, but Barca have a good amount of European success and have basically dominated La Liga for 20 years.
barcelona was the best team in the world
but they have always been small outside of spain and thats where RM shines the most
living here in madrid no one really cares about la liga, the just want to see the playoffs of the champions league
Lol people say Barca but Madrid won almost as many UCLs as their entire club and did something that’s never been done and maybe never done again (UCL 3peat)
Barcelona. Sure, they have one less UCL than Real Madrid in that period. But they dominated their domestic league much more that Real Madrid did in those 10 years. 7 La Liga titles, 6 Copa del Rey and 6 Supercopas compared to Real Madrid’s 2 La Ligas, 2 Copa del Rey and 2 Supercopas. Because of this domestic dominance the title count is 31 for Barcelona and 17 for Real Madrid in that period.
The debate might be over in a few months if/ when Barca is stripped off of all their La Liga titles with the referee bribery scandal.
Barca was better at playing football, Real was better at winning trophies.
I’d say Real Madrid. 4 Champions League, 3 of which were consecutive is an absolutely insane achievement. How do you win 4 in 5 years
Well RMA won champions leagues in row several times, but Barca era was the most delightfull football in football history for any viewer.
I’m a Real Madrid fan and even I can see that Barca is clearly better. Only years we were truly better than them is 2012, probably 2014, maybe 2016 and 2017.
We had so many performances against them where we were dominated. The 5-0. The UCL Semis in 2011. And many more. When we won we usually only won by 1 and very rarely 2.
I don’t want to downplay Real, I think our team in the 2010s is the second best club side ever. Sadly, the only one in history that’s better is Barca during the same time.
3x back to back champions leagues is more difficult than anything Barca did in the same product period.
Barcelona
Barcelona. 2009 Barcelona is possible the best team ever. Can’t say the same for the 3peat Madrid team.
