People saying “What” in the comments clearly haven’t read the article and jumping to conclusions.

It’s not hard to see the glaring differences between women’s and men’s football in the UK. While a lot of Premier League stars are from working class backgrounds, most WSL players are from middle class families instead.

Supporting grassroots, accessible women’s football is only going to help in giving young girls opportunities in life, and spots talent which would never get the chance otherwise.

Good on them for recognising this tbh.

Yeah, once you read the article it makes perfect sense. Glad we’re gonna be spearheading this

Football is one of the cheapest sports to play. You just need one ball that cots 10pounds and 20 kids can have fun on the street. All those working class girls need is a desire to play football which they obviously don’t have. And it is not an opportunity either… the mean salary in WSL is £47,000. This is if you become one of the best 400 football players in the country (which is extremely difficult, by the way). This is by no means an opportunity for those girls… they are better of studying and becoming doctors, lawyers, etc…

I’m getting strong “Look at the Lobster, for example” vibes here.

my hottest take is that all articles should require you to answer a reading comprehension questionnaire before you can post a comment.

not even anything complex, just something like “what is the first name of the player who spoke on the podcast?”. literally a “did you read…?”.

Yeah that’s a pretty uncommon level of self awareness from my recollection. Hopefully this starts something with some positive impact.

Looking forward to Crystal Palace’s statement on their lack of diversity for the Men’s team.

The French Men’s national team should release a statement too.

This is a perfectly reasonable statement acknowledging a systemic lack of diversity in women’s football, and commiting to long term solutions to grow women’s football around the world. Anyone who actually read this article could not possibly get upset by this

Whats wrong with people? This sounds like OCD intrusive thoughts!!! It’s not wrong to look the same as long as fair chance is given to everyone. We just don’t pick diversity to be diverse. If they’re not talented, they won’t make the team. As simple as that!!

Is it really such a crime for your XI to have the same skin colour? Are 11 white people not allowed to be together without it requiring a club statement anymore?

    Fucking hell man.

I get what you’re getting at, but people are reacting to the full squad photo, not just the XI, so 27 players.

It’s still ridiculous. They have players from all over the world, and they are diverse. Signing a black player for the sake of diversity is pure tokenism.

Not quite understanding that one myself. Just pointing out what the article they obviously didn’t read says, not saying the outrage is justified or anything.
