Along with its warning on Tuesday, the HRC released a guidebook with summaries of laws in each state, “know your rights” information and resources for LGBTQ+ travelers as well as those already living in so-called hostile states.
Desperately trying to get my ass out of the south right now. Been working on it for almost a year. I was about at the point where I was going to just load up my car and drive until I hit a blue state, and figure out the rest later. Better to be a refugee now, before the brownshirts start bringing out the bloodhounds.
Fortunately, I think I have something lined up now (tentatively), but god damn it’s terrifying down here.
I just fled the South. No one in my family understands why. They tell me nothing bad will happen; I am overreacting. Nah, fam. I see the writing on the wall. I’m out. It took three years of my savings, but I couldn’t handle it. Good luck to you. I wish you all the best and hope you can move soon!
Best of luck to you. I’ve been applying to move out of Florida. Keep your head down and keep on trucking.

Also, Michigan is a great state to move to if you have the option. We have great progressive leadership and the governor wants more residents.
I’ll add Minnesota to that as well! We’ve always been a pretty decent LBGT stronghold and this last legislative session has been phenomenal.
How’s the job market there, especially for IT jobs? I’m looking for remote stuff so that I could move anywhere but it seems like the whole IT sector is suffering at the moment.
I can’t say for certain as it’s been 5+ years since I was looking for a job in the market, but according to Indeed there are quite a few. Remote is hard to get though.
I’m sorry to hear that. Please be safe!
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that. I hope you can relocate safely! Good luck to you, I mean it
