In the end, the good mods will leave Reddit one way or another. The admins can put as many bad mods as they want in charge of subs and it’s not going to help.
Mod of /r/homeautomation and /r/homeimprovement here. Yeah we are all done. The subreddits are staying private until we are removed forcefully or reddit changes their stance on the API. Chances are it will be the former. It’s really sad but we just cannot realistically moderate without third-party apps. And with the way spez has been acting it’s likely more mod tools/bots will be on the chopping block making our “jobs” many times harder. It’s hard, it’s sucks, I’ve been on reddit for some 12 years now (under various accounts). We love our communities but just can’t operate this way. :(
hi there. i’m sorry this has happened and their greedy actions have impacted your communities. i hope you find a home here on kbin or another alt and can grow your community again. keep up the good fight. <3
Thank you. It’s been a rough 10 days or so. I don’t know that I have it in me to pick up the pieces and do it again. At least not right now. I know much of the team feels the same way. For now I’ve found a home here at least as a regular user, lol.
thats perfectly understandable. either way, welcome!
Thanks, really appreciate it! Still learning my way around but so far feel comfortable here.
that’s great, be sure to check out all the dope userscripts and userstyles available 👀
Do you have an alternative magazine/community here or on Lemmy? I followed both of those subs closely on Reddit.
I’m a mod on /r/Disneyland and our mod team set something up here on Kbin ( @Disneyland; if you’re on Lemmy go to the search bar and search
https://kbin.social/m/Disneyland
).We’ve been promoting it in our “we’re private” message but it hasn’t really gotten much activity yet.
I’ve been hoping to see a giant list of communities that have moved their mod teams to other services somewhere, but I’ve just seen some isolated comments here and there.
We do not and at this time just can’t do it again. Maybe in time that sentiment will change. I am very glad you enjoyed those subs though, we put a lot of hard work into them over the years. It’s nice every once in a while to hear appreciation rather than obscenities and arguments. :)
you can just plain @ it like, @Disneyland :)
and yea, i wish mass migration was more talked about amongst mods of subreddits. imagine, mass migration + blackouts + advertiser campaign + shitty modding? powerhouse
So how would @'ing communities on other instances work? I presume the Fediverse syntax of @userorgroup@instance?
It’s !community@instance @username@instance is for pinging a user.
As a final middle finger why not a single sticky post linking people to a kbin magazine for each?
perhaps even have an automod respond with the link to every post and comment before dipping out (or rather, being forced out)
That sucks. /r/homeimprovement was starting to get really good too.
Thanks for your effort!
My one interaction with you or one of your colleagues was when somebody went on a big political rant at me after I described an engineer as “him” versus “they” (which was sloppy, but also unrelated to what I was explaining). You deleted their comment, then they deleted their account. I was amused.
We do appreciate the kudos, I’ll relay to the team on Discord! We take (probably now took) a REALLY hard-line against political BS regardless of party. We even use(d) automod to filter out political parties, big name politicians, etc. It really is a thankless job and it was common to get called names daily in modmail. We love the communities though and wanted to see them grow. Such a shame that one entitled CEO is willing to burn it to the ground for the sake of profit.
I used to comment occasionally on r/home improvement. Thanks for operating it. Sorry they broke it. Welcome home.
The good mods are almost universally already gone, what was left until this point was powermods who didn’t care about any of the communities they moderated to begin with.
The GallowBoobs of the site.
Lol I actually got one of my Reddit accounts banned for reporting his content for spam, the reason was “false reporting” which I am sure is the only instance that TOS was cited for a ban.
Hey same lol
Fuck that dude
The mrbabymen cometh…
Yup
This might just be me, but arbitrary CAPSLOCK on words and Title Case on threads that aren’t a link to a news article are clickbait patterns that I’d prefer to not see on kbin.
As for the object of the thread itself… I am thoroughly unsurprised. I have never seen IranianGenius involved in any positive manner with /r/tumblr whereas TayTay was singlehandedly responsible for making /r/tumblr into slightly less of a garbage heap. Removing the one mod that was actually improving things is perfectly in line with Reddit’s recent behavior.
my bad, i just wanted to make sure people actually read it lol, annoying as it is, it is EFFECTIVE haha
spez is big mad.
pathetic really. not shocking. however it just makes me more determined each time i see/hear a report to stay away from reddit.
That seals it then. Deleting my account tomorrow.
don’t yet. They are restoring deleted posts, rewrite with a script and then sit for a while to see what they do.
Until then we know how to make alts, we can just start submitting random nsfw to all the subs they have forced reopened.
They will have to start making subs approved content only.
I think it’s time we bring back surprise goatse! A new surprise for your inbox every day.
plus we can just go on a downvote binge, while upvoting shit that shouldn’t be there
use redact to overwrite comments with random bullshit or a protest msg
Allegedly they’re reverting/restoring comments.
That’s the plan
At this point, maybe we’ll get lucky and it will be a container site for the toxic morons that will be left
Crazy they think they’re doing the right thing when it incentivizes users to leave when they pull this shit.
This is terrible. Similar thing happened to me - the only positive spin is that, unlike me, at least TayTay was given the reason.
