Why YSK this is that some of the soap absorbs into the fruit, especially berries, and let’s say you are washing your cherries with dish soap, and you eat them. That story ends with a long bathroom trip as soap makes you a little queasy. ETA: Nobody has heard about this?! I see it in the southeast where I live.
Who washes produce with soap?!
Right??? Also, don’t try to jam a fork in electrical outlets btw
I was surprised to discover that my new dishwasher comes with a fruit mode, so apparently there are people out there who dishwash their fruits.
Excuse me, what the fuck?
I know right? And yet…
Oh, sure, you talk about the fruit but don’t even mention putting the fuckin’ baby in the dishwasher! 😁
That’s for like bottles and things, I hope…
No, diapers and fruit. Together
Right, but does the instruction include how much soap to add? hehe
This, so much this. This is the first time I hear about it
Actually, and in opposition to the post, if I’m going to use citrus peel in stuff, I do wash it with a little soap. Many pesticides are wax based and won’t come off with water. Soap and scrubbing is way more likely to get them off.
Berries though? Yecch.
What pesticides are wax based? Can you send something citing this?
Idk about wax, but they’re generally non-polar. So soap helps
Really? People do that?!
Well this is a first. I have never heard anyone do this! Usually I’ll just do something like rinse off things like apples/oranges. If it’s something that is more easily bruised like berries, I’ll throw them in some water with some salt in there.
The question becomes, if you feel that the fruits need to be washed with soap - should you really be eating it?
You can wash it with vinegar though. Washing your berries with vinegar as soon as you bring them home will dramatically improve their shelf life.
Apparently I’m the odd one out here, lol. I wash most of my fruit with soap and water – can’t say I’ve ever had any issues.
I’ve always done it that way and was never told otherwise by anyone until about a year ago when my gf saw me do it. I never had any issues either, I’ll still do it sometimes if I can get away with it.
I mean different strokes for sure, but I’m confused by OP saying it will make you queezy. Seems very anecdotal.

Jokes on you I do not need soap for a good bathroom trip. But my question is, is it ok to wash your fruit with just water? I do it but some times I am wondering if I should do it

it does depend on where you’re getting the fruits from and whether you’re in a first world country though
Might as well just use ethanol, kill the germs and catch a buzz.
I grew up in the southeast and never saw soap used.
I wash fruit by submerging them for a couple of minutes in water and vinegar. Then I pat them dry and store them in the fridge in zip bags that I fill with CO2 from a soda maker.
So far it seems I’m the only one here who uses a fruit spray to wash their fruit under water. After reading this though I think I want to check the ingredients lol.
TIL some people actually use soap to wash their fruits and veggies.
