Maybe this will give you an idea. There are 59 active Minnesotans in the NHL. The second most players from an US state are 38 from Michigan. Similarly, only the provinces of Ontario and Québec have more active players in the NHL. Not to mention that highschool hockey is a huuuuge deal in MN.
NHL isn’t the only hockey. High school hockey sells out the Xcel every year. No other state can say that. Hockey day Minnesota… The USA NHL hall of fame is here… Not even a close second place in this race

No one in MN ever talked about the State of Hockey until the Wild unleashed it as a marketing campaign in 2000.
