Hopefully, this will fix the overheating some were having.
So it’s a… hotfix?
A coolfix 😎
-sigh- I’m so disappointed in you, dad
Problem was Instagram, not iOS.
I agree with this guy, a listing of apps using significant energy just like macOS has would be nice.
The release notes literally say they made changes to iOS 17 to deal with overheating issues.
Also, their comments to the press few days ago mentioned several apps (Instagram, Uber, etc) as well as issues to be patched with the new OS.
Did you even watch the video? iPhonedo tested with and without the instagram update as well as 17.0.3
I’ve watched them all.
Here is an alternative Piped link(s):

I’m open-source; check me out at GitHub.
Good to see. I was thinking we wouldn’t get a fix until 17.1.
Thankfully I haven’t had any overheating issues after setting up the phone. But it did get too hot to touch on the left hand side during data transfer when first setting up the phone.

All indications point to Apple restricting background timeslices for programs to reduce available compute cycles. Keeping modern chips at top speed for processing in bursts and then sleeping is actually more power efficient than throttling and allowing continuous calculation ( https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/race-to-sleep ) At nominal TDP, the A17 will drain an iPhone 15 battery from 100% to 0% in under 3-4 hours, even with the radios and screen off. The only way it can usefully function is to be in sleep mode most of the time and some processes were getting more time slices than would allow that.
Nope. Already tested. Same clock speed.
Also this issue impacted older processors as well as iPads. It wasn’t the a17.
Software fix to block the Instagram bug that was causing the overheating.
I did not have any issues with my 15 Pro but glad they released something so quick for the people who did.
Using an older handset, can I pass on this?
It has security fixes, so it’s probably a bad idea to skip it
10-4. Thanks for the advice.
