Hi all,

After a few years of strongly suspecting I have Autism, I received my official diagnosis yesterday! It’s nice to be validated. \o/

Congratulations! I’m glad it worked out for you. :D How hard was it for you to get the diagnosis, if you don’t mind sharing? I’m still waiting for the opportunity myself, but now I’ve grown so old that I feel like it’s borderline impossible to get anyone to believe me, haha. (sigh)

I live in Canada, and I got my diagnosis through a publicly funded program at CAMH’s Adult Neurodevelopmental Clinic. I was on a waiting list with them for a long time before I had my assessment. I’m so thankful that this service is available.

Ah, that sounds great. Thank you for the info. Maybe there will be something similar in my country one day, too.

My situation is a bit odd, because my referral for an assessment was originally sent in 3 years ago. I probably should have done it earlier, but when I contacted CAMH earlier this spring to get an update on when my assessment would be, I was told that my referral had been cancelled because some requested information that I had sent in was lost. As it had been so long, they put me on a fast track to get assessed. So, sadly, I can’t give you a realistic wait time, but as I understand it, a a year or two is normal.

Congratulations! I’m about to try to get a professional assessment, although in the particular region of Italy where I live it’s a long process for adults that involves getting appointments with two doctors before going to the “Regional Autism Centre”. That has discouraged me for quite some time but this sort of limbo sometimes is hard to bear and now I just want to know it for certain…
