From what i can tell the “all” feed is identical to my “subscribed” feed. If true that makes it quite likely that i am the one responsible for subscribing to most of the remote communities

As long as we do not get any communist garbage on the local feed… lemmy.ml is infested with them.
Stuff off-instance shows up in “all”.
I personally don’t like federation for this sort of user experience. And especially I don’t like the way Lemmy does it. It’s a huge mess.
Most people here, including me, haven’t used the fediverse much before. I would expect now that federation is enabled, at least some people will venture out and subscribe to other communities, gradually making the “all” feed more diverse :)
