In this episode we explore a relatively new subgenre of science fiction called Solarpunk, which aims to imagine better, more ecologically harmonious, futures on earth. In many ways Solarpunk is a reaction to both the real-world climate crisis and to the many apocalyptic visions of collapse filling our screens. Andrew Sage from the YouTube channel @Andrewism joins host Jonathan McIntosh and friend of the show Carl Williams for this conversation.
Completely tangential, but Invidious is a great, self-hosted alternative front-end to YouTube. So for example, instead of the YouTube link:
Just copy the “watch?v=…” to an Invidious instance. Two of my favourite public instances as examples:
- https://yewtu.be/watch?v=HhNLkKw7ClM&feature=youtu.be
This lets you watch/share YouTube videos with zero ads, zero tracking and fast speeds :) The only drawback is you can’t comment/like, but it’s a fairly small one IMHO. Have a good one!
That’s really cool! Thanks for sharing this
Edit: is there an image hosting/imgur alternative I should be using? I imagine the cost of hosting content probably strains the resources available to most non-commercial entities, but I’ve been surprised before
No probs! Haven’t personally tried Imgur alternatives, but here’s a few to choose from
Thanks for this great introduction. I did not fully grasp what Solarpunk is, or can be.
